Taking the Pressure Off - Pressure Cushions
Pressure cushions are commonly prescribed for clients who utilise a wheelchair for any period of time, and can also be used on alternative seated services such as in a vehicle. Pressure cushions can assist with pressure management; seating tolerance; positioning and comfort for the client to support engagement in daily living tasks.
This on-demand training is approximately 30 minutes (25 minutes to be exact!) and covers:
- The purpose of pressure cushions & common risk factors
- Introduction to cushion materials including air; gel & foam
- Assessment including decision making tree to support choice for equipment trials
- Consideration of cushion features to address functional needs

This allows clinicians to learn about the features their client requires, rather than just knowledge around popular brands on the market. This also supports rural clinicians who may not have access to specific brands – allowing them to discuss with suppliers what features they may need to address functional needs.
